On the most awaited day of every Kannadiga’s year, the Birthday of Kannada Icon Dr. Rajkumar, Zee Kannada presents the blockbuster movie, “Mayura”, aired at 5pm on the Sunday, 22nd April.

“Mayura”- Dr. Rajkumar earned his name as the King of celluloid with this film. He created a significant mark in the history of Kannada cinema. Released in 1975, this film created a record with its completing 25 weeks at the box office.

Mayura was the only film that was ever shot at the Great Mysore Palace and was carried out on the highest budget of those times and adorned a rich set that shone with magnificence.  It was through this film that Dr. Rajkumar’s superior acting skills were known to the masses as he played the role of the great king Mayura Varma.  With this historical movie, Dr. Raj has made known the greatness of Karnataka and the Kannadigas to the world. The film shows the determination and pride of king Mayura as he braves the Pallavas to build his own kingdom, the first dynasty of the Kannadigas- Kadambas.

Sandalwood Century star, Shivrajkumar says, “On the occasion of Appaji’s Birthday, Zee Kannada is airing the best film of Appaji- Mayura and I am eagerly waiting to watch it for the first time on television. Appaji gave a powerful performance as King Mayura in this film which is the prestige of Kannadigas.

“This film has many special memories that are very personal to us. It was when he was shooting an action sequence for the film, a Mallayuddha scene, was the time Puneet was born. I think that may be a reason why he is now an action hero.” says Actor and Producer, Raghavendra Rajkumar. He continues “This amazing film is being telecast on Zee Kannada and I am immensely happy to watch it on television”.
