Amidst much glitz & glamour, the sixth Annual Close up Vijay Awards powered by Bingo was held in Nehru Indoor Stadium on June 16, 2012. An array of stars from the film industry, eminent directors, notable producers, top-notch technicians all were present for the year’s biggest award ceremony.


Of the 143 films released in 2011, winners from 34 different categories were announced in the evening’s awards ceremony. The five favorite categories – Favorite Hero, Favorite Heroine, Favorite Director, Favorite Film and Favorite Song awards were chosen on the basis of the votes collected from the public.

The award winners in the 30 BEST categories were chosen by the eminent Jury members K.S. Ravikumar, actors Yugi Sethu, Nadhiya, Lizzy Priyadarshan and Cinematographer Rathinavel.

Best Actor, Best Actress Best Director, Best Supporting Actor Male / Female, Best Debut Actor – Male / Female of the year 2011 were awarded. Also the technical awards in various categories that include Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, best Art Director, Best Stunt Director were also given to the most deserving. Also various other award categories like Best Lyricist, Best Story Screenplay writer, Best Choreographer, Best Crew, Best Art Director, best Music Director, Best Playback singer Male / Female, Best Comedian, Best Villain and many more awards were also given.

Legendary singer S.P. Balasubramaniam was awarded the Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan award for Excellence in Indian Cinema. The following awards were presented to; Best actor VIKRAM (Deivathirumagal), Best actor female ANJALI (Engeyum Eppodum), Best Film ENGEYUM EPPODUM, Best director VETRIMARAN (Aadukalam), Best Music Director G.V. Prakash (Aadukalam) and best villain AJITH (Mangatha). In the favorite category; Favorite Hero AJITH, Favorite Heroine ANUSHKA, Favorite director VENKATPRABHU, Favorite Film KO, Favorite song ‘ENNAMO ETHO…(KO) were presented.

To light up the event, some ravishing performances were also staged. While Actors Shriya Saran and Anjali performed to a folk medley, Brazilian dancers had performed to some interesting medley numbers. Actor Dhanush who performed with music director Anirudh held the audience spell bound with his scintillating performance. Dhanush’s song & dance performance was a treat. Three exclusive trailers of Kamal Hasan’s ‘Viswaroopam’ were launched during the event.

All the leading stars from the Tamil industry, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, A.R. Rehman, Prabhu Dheva, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Director K. Balachandar, K.S. Ravikumar, Venkat Prabhu, Vetrimaran, Balumahendra, P.C. Sriram, Santhosh Sivan, Vikram, Vairamuthu, Nadhiya, Aishwarya Dhanush, Simran, Kushboo, Radhika, Nazzer, Meena, Kovai Sarala, Uma Riaz Khan, Santhanam, Andrea, Pooja Kumar, Pandiarajan, Pandiaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj, G.V. Prakash, Na. Muthukumar, Madan Karki, Jayaprakash, Raguram Master, Samuthrakani, S.J. Surya, Chinmayi, Sana Kahan and many others were a part of this grand awards ceremony.

It was indeed a moment to cherish, when S.P. Balasubramaniam who received the Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award. Kamal Hasan and A.R. Rehman shared their best memories while giving away the award to SPB along with actor Prabhu.

The 6th Annual Close up Vijay Awards powered by Bingo a show that witnessed numerous celebrities, top-notch film technicians and many ardent movie buffs, would air as two parts on June 29th and 30th, 2012, Friday and Saturday at 6 pm. A must watch award ceremony of the year. Don’t miss it.
