Sony SAB’s highly anticipated show Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare is a never seen before romance drama that follows the story of two people who are separated by nearly 400 years but drawn to each other because of destiny. The show highlights the different worlds and perspectives of Dhruv (Ishaan Dhawan) a 21st century neurosurgeon and Tara (Riya Sharma) a 17th century Princess. A love story beyond the bounds of time, Sony SAB’s Dhruv Tara explores a new genre of romance on television.

The show takes viewers back to the life of the 17th century royalty and costumes have played an integral role in the establishing the era. An aspect that has been raising the viewers’ curiosity is how will a Princess dress across two different eras? Balancing the contrast between the 17th and 21st century through costumes has surely been an exciting task for Tara and the designers.
While creating the 17th century outfits for Rajkumari Tara, a lot of intricate details were added to her lehengas including tassels, embroidery, mixing and matching of colours and jewellery. Pinks, oranges and hints of turquoise were used to add richness while emphasising her royal heritage. Contrary to the regal princess outfit, Riya is seen as a simple girl next door dressed in a salwar kameez in the 21st century. This also demonstrates Tara’s willingness to adapt to a new world and fit the mould of a regular girl. The differences between both eras are perfectly captured by these costumes helping Tara get into the skin of her character.

Opening up about her costumes, Riya Sharma, said, “I think costumes have a big role to play when it comes to characters. Specially with Tara, her clothes are a reflection of how she feels while adapting to the new age style. The 17th century costume holds a special place in my heart and I absolutely adore the princess outfit! It’s regal, elegant and perfectly encapsulates the richness of Indian culture. It makes me feel like an actual princess whenever I put it on. I remember, the first time I got into the look, it was surreal to see myself as Tara. Even with heavy jewellery, it made me want to get on my feet and twirl. When I put on the costume, it instantly transports me to the olden times and really helps me get into character. Tara’s costumes stand out the most and I’m really excited to see the viewers experience the show and her fabulous outfits.”
